The images of marriage in Psalm 44 and the Book of Songs: View of Theodore of Mopsuestia and Theodoret of Cyrus

This article is an attempt at a comparative analysis of the interpretation of the images of marriage in Psalms 44 and the Song of Songs in the commentaries of Theodore of Mopsuestia and Theodoretus of Cyrus. Both interpreters belong to the Antiochian theological and exegetical tradition. However, in their exegetical works, two opposing approaches to the interpretation of the biblical text are evident. The first relies on personal experience, while the second bases his personal experience on the testimony of the church tradition. The experience of Theodore of Mopsuestia leads to the destruction of the traditional view of the Church on the composition and content of the Bible. Theodore of Cyrus answers the objections of Theodore and proves correctness of the experience of the Church.
