Abstract

The article is devoted to the description and analysis of methodological approaches of one of the key directions of modern narratology, narrative hermeneutics, as well as the assessment of the possibility and productivity of using its principles and conceptual and terminological system in the context of Orthodox biblical scholarship. This section raises the question of the relevance and necessity of such interdisciplinary interaction. In addition, the trends in the field of humanitarian thought in the first half of the twentieth century, which gave impetus to the study of narrative and the phenomenon known as the «narrative turn» in general, are examined. Emphasis is placed on the fact that interest in narrative begins with a deep suspicion of it among both creative intellectuals and the scholarly community. Such skepticism and even hostility was driven by a number of epistemological, ontological, and ethical attitudes, a discussion of which is also provided in this article.
