The References to Russian Literature in the Lectures of Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh (Based on the Book «Beauty and Ugliness. Conversations about Art and Reality»)

Abstract

The article deals with the references of Russian literature in the lectures of Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh. These lectures were presented at the University of Kent in remembrance of Thomas Stearns Eliot in 1982. The book «Beauty and ugliness. Talk about Art and Reality» was the data for study. It presents a transcript translation of these lectures into Russian. The article establishes the biographies of Russian writers and identifiable archetypal features in Russian literature noticed by Metropolitan Anthony. The analyze shows the input of the references in the general context of world literature which bring an indestructible idea to the essence of human beauty, according to the Metropolitan’s opinion.
