Abstract

Yesterday at All-Night Vigil you heard great praise for the saint of the land of Tambov, the wonderworker Pitirim, and your heart rejoiced, for his memory is immortal, for he is known of the Lord4, known also of man. The Lord knew him long ago; the Lord knew him even when he was young, when he showed great godliness in his childhood. The Lord knew him when he was still a young man who entered the monastery of St. John the Baptist in Vyazma. The brethren of this monastery deeply appreciated his exceptional piety and when the abbot died and a new one had to be chosen, notwithstanding the fact that there were many worthy elders among the monks at that time, a very young Hieromonk Pitirim was chosen by general vote of the brethren.
