Abstract

Dom Gueranger told how, before founding Solem, he revealed his project to Mrs Svechina, whom he loved to visit and who had always taken a keen interest in it. "When she," he says, "learned that the main purpose of this creation was prayer and the praise of God, she shed tears of joy. As it was remarked about it afterwards, "having converted from orthodoxy, Sophia Svechina kept a great longing for the greatness of her native liturgical prayer".
