The Synaxis of Saints of the Moscow Theological Academy: Some Materials to the History of Formation of a New Iconographic Image
With Introduction of Fr Luke (Golovkov)
Abstract
The Moscow Theological Academy, the first higher theological school in Russia, educated and trained its graduates both theoretically and practically, and theory, contrary to established stereotypes, very often confirmed practice. The proof of the vitality of sometimes excessively theoretical truths was the feat of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia, whose ranks include representatives of the Academy, either as professors or simply as its graduates. In the era of the rebirth of the largely interrupted traditions of serious spiritual education, it is very important to have before our eyes the saints, whose scientific and theological training must have contributed to their high, most often confessional or martyrdom, exploits.
