Translations of Some Works by St Ephraem the Syrian in the Holy Fathers’ Works Series: a Bibliographic List

Abstract

The present inventory is a list of those works by St Ephrem in the translation of the Moscow Theological Academy which have been translated from the Syriac2 and which occupy about half of the total volume of his writings. The importance of compiling such a bibliography is indicated by the fact that, since the publication of these translations (from the second half of the 19th century onwards), a considerable success has been achieved in studying the legacy of one of the most venerated saints in Syriac Christianity. First of all, we should mention the critical publication of most of the writings attributed in the manuscript tradition to St Ephrem, and the discovery and subsequent publication of the original Syriac text of the "Commentary on the Diatessaron". In addition, of course, there has been quite an extensive study of the theological teaching of the authentic monuments, as well as of their literary features.
