Abstract

"Only in a few does familiar recollection pass into understanding contemplation. It is as if one leaves the present and lives in the past. That which has already reached its end, continues to live as an element of the content of education. These words of C. Jaspers, the outstanding Christian thinker of the 20th century, fully characterize the outlook of the professors of the post-war Academy, who wished to leave their personal memories, their memoirs, for its history. It was to them that "understanding contemplation" was inherent, which gives value and appeal to their descriptions of the faces and events of the past century. They regarded their academic vocation as a high and exceptional privilege, bestowed from above by a gift of fate in God's inexplicable will.
