Abstract

Among the materials held in the 172nd Collection of the Russian State Library for the History of Spiritual Science, a large part of them are pre-revolutionary course papers written by graduates of the Moscow Theological Academy in the 19th and early 20th centuries up to the Revolution. As the teaching process improved, the level of work increased, although it continued to vary depending on the more or less exacting attitudes of academic supervisors and the abilities of students. Often the theses of the most able students were developed into Master's theses, each of which, as a rule, was then published in accordance with the Statute of 1869 and the "Statute on tests for academic degrees" approved by the Holy Synod on 29 August 1874.
