Monk Agathadorus. The organization of the Catholic monastic order of St. Augustine

Abstract

The publication is devoted to describing the life, organization and mission of the Catholic religious order of St. Augustine - the Assumptionists (Latin: Congregatio Augustinianorum ab Assumptione), Congregation of Our Lady of the Assumption. The A. of the publication lived at the turn of XIX-XX centuries in Istanbul's Kadikoy district, and witnessed the activities of the congregation of the Assumptionists, established by the French priest Emmanuel d'Alzon in 1845 in the South of France. In the description of monk Agathodorus this monastic congregation is broadly referred to as the Order of St. Augustine. In his article, he describes the activities of the Order on the territory of Bulgaria and Turkey, the rules and organization of the inner life, daily routine of the community, a rite of passage to the various degrees of the fraternity, ordination procedure to the priesthood and episcopal ministry. His very detailed descriptions provide valuable information for those interested in the history of the Catholic monastic orders, as well as in the whole history of Catholicism.
