From the history of studying the Acathistus Saturday act of worship

Abstract

Versions of memory establishment of the Fifth Saturday of Lent - the Acathistus Saturday - are considered in the paper. The first known mentions about this act of worship formation are presented. Such monuments as George Armatol’s Chronicle. Original Story about Acathistus, Nikiphor Kallista Ksanphopula’s Synaxarium are outlined. Theories of different scientists according to the origin of the Acathistus Saturday act of worship are studied. The theory of Professor I. A. Karabinov and A. I. Papadopulo-Keramevsis analyzed. Discussion of M. Tearvic and A. I. Papadopulo-Keramevsis described as well. In respect to the subject, opinions of such scientists as M. Tearvic, M. Huglo. N. Cappuyns are considered. The initial analysis of the theories stated before is given. In conclusion, on the strength of summarizing of studying the Acathistus Saturday act of worship history, problems of the subject are scrutinized since their solution will facilitate making of complete and objective scene of the Acathistus Saturday act of worship formation and development.
