The Influence of Eastern Theology of the Icon on the Practice of Venerating Images in the Dioceses of the Roman Catholic Church

The article is devoted to the analysis of the reception of Eastern Christian icon theology in the modern practice of the Roman Catholic Church. Using the example of the communities of the Archdiocese of Brisbane (Australia), Benedictine monasteries in the USA (Louisiana, Indiana), parishes in New York and Massachusetts, as well as Catholic communities in Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro, the transformation of the attitude towards the sacred image is considered. The research methodology is based on a comparative and theological analysis of theological works and art monuments. The author proves that this process is not a mechanical borrowing, but represents a deep theological and cultural interaction. The conclusions emphasize that the result of this reception is the formation of folk piety practices in the Catholic environment that are implicitly close to the Eastern perception of the icon.
