The Impact of Volunteering on the Formation of Spiritual and Moral Values in Youth

Abstract

Based on theological, pedagogical, and socio‑cultural approaches, the article analyzes the mechanisms of personal development occurring in the process of selfless service to one’s neighbor. It is demonstrated that volunteering contributes to the internal integration of a person’s value orientations, the formation of responsibility, mercy, and readiness for self‑sacrifice. The author reveals the mechanisms of personal transformation during service: the development of virtues, the attainment of inner maturity, and the formation of responsibility for the fate of others and the Motherland. The study shows the interconnection between the spiritual and civic aspects of volunteering, highlighting its role in strengthening social solidarity and the continuity of cultural traditions. It is concluded that volunteering represents a vital resource for cultivating moral culture and shaping a responsible civic identity. The role of Orthodox volunteering is noted as a «silent mission» — a form of witnessing the faith in the modern world, where word and deed achieve unity.
