The journal Theological Herald, published in Sergiev Posad in 1892-1918 and reflecting on its pages various directions of theological and church-historical thought of the Moscow Theological Academy, shared the fate of the majority of church periodicals in Russia. Closed almost simultaneously with the closure of the Academy, the ‘Theological Herald’ for a long time, like the light of a long-extinct star, reached its rare and casual readers, pointing them amidst the darkness of desolation and unbelief to the undying moral and worldview orientations of Christianity. After the restoration of the Academy in 1944, it took almost half a century before the Academy found its independent, free and sounding in full force voice. The historical dictates of time, the demands of a religiously awakening society, and most importantly, the inscrutable ways of Divine Providence determined that the ‘Theological Herald’ should be!
