The 47th issue of the scientific and theological journal "Theological Bulletin" is published by MThA

2023-03-22
The issue contains 16 articles on a wide variety of subjects:   biblical studies, hermeneutics and exegetics, theology and philosophy, patrology and Christian literature, the history of the Russian Orthodox Church, church law, Ecclesiastical art and archaeology, Russian literature and Religious Studies.   In addition, this issue contains a review of the Russian translation from Dutch and English of G. van den Brink's book "And the earth produced...": Christian Faith and Evolution.   In this issue:   Monk Neil (Lazarenko) in his article "Remarks on Mark 1: 40-45: was the leper healed in the synagogue?", dealing with one of the pericopes of the Gospel of Mark, raises the question of in which place Jesus healed the leper. The Gospel of Mark gives no explicit indication of this. However, the vocabulary used (verbs with the prefix ἐκ- (ἐξ-), ἐκβάλλω and ἐξέρχομαι) hint that the miracle took place in a closed room. This coincides with what we know from Mark's Gospel about Jesus' first miracles: they all take place indoors or in close proximity to them (such as at the door of Peter's house in 1:33-34). Before the account of the healing, there is mention of Jesus preaching in the Jewish synagogues. In one of them Jesus drove an unclean spirit out of a man (1: 23-27). It is reasonable to assume that Jesus healed a leper in one of the synagogues in the city. This agrees with Luke's account of the healing of the leper in one city (Lk 5:12-14). This incident, which was made public, was the occasion for Jesus to retire to the wilderness, where many of his healings have taken place since then.   Rosalia Moiseyevna Rupova offers an article "Creation Symbolism as a Basis for Hermeneutic Procedures. The method of integral exegesis". The symbolic nature of the God-created world and man, according to the author, opens up the prospect of reading culture as a symbolic text, as the nature of the world and man also has deep-seated symbolism. The article provides a historical overview of the transformation of the concept of "symbol" in the European cultural space. European culture can reasonably be regarded as an extended commentary on the Holy Scriptures, since it is often unwittingly in the biblical "matrix" in which the very principles of distinction between good and evil are set. The existing methods of its analysis in literary and cultural studies are very diverse as they are based on different attitudes: from psychoanalysis of different formats to M.M. Bakhtin's theory of dialogue or postmodernist approaches. Theological comprehension of culture, the introduction of its diversity into the coordinates of Christian understanding, can begin with the application to it, with corresponding corrections and assumptions, of the methods of biblical hermeneutics.   Mikhail S. Ivanov devotes his article "The Conception of Truth in the Religious Philosophy of Nikolai Berdyaev" to the problem of searching the truth. The work in the field of religious philosophy was carried out by the famous Russian thinker
