The article is dedicated to the analysis of the linguistic features of the writings of St. Symeon the New Theologian. The author, drawing attention to the low interest of researchers in the text of Symeon from the point of view of form, offers an analysis of the lexical, morphological, syntactic means of expressiveness in the third «Oratio ethica». The analysis revealed specific grammatical features of the author’s language that distinguish it from the language of Attic prose, which was considered good form to imitate during the Macedonian Renaissance. Analysis of parallels to the exclamation «But this will not happen, it will not be!» (Oratio ethica III, 322) reveals an allusion to St. Symeon at St. Gregory Palamas, as well as to identify previously not taken into account testimony in the essay «Against Cantacuzene» by John Cyparissiotes, which is relevant for the history of the text of the «Method of Sacred Prayer». Numerous cases of the stylistic closeness of the language of St. Symeon the New Theologian and St. John Chrysostom are also identified.
