Christianity in Bakhtin. (Chapter 1)

The present publication continues a series of translations that aim to acquaint the Russian-speaking reader with the contents of the most important sections of Ruth Coates' study, Christianity in Bakhtin. In the second part of the introduction, she lists the works of Western and Russian scholars of Bakhtin (monographs, articles, essays) to whose conclusions she is rather sceptical and explains her attempt to challenge certain interpretations and conclusions, as well as to show their far-fetched and superficiality. She is most interested in solid research and sets the reader up for her comprehensive and practical approach to her work. At the same time, while clearly stating the aim of her research, the author boldly states that she herself is "alien to Orthodoxy" and in her research she also attempts to deepen her knowledge.
