Abstract

This article examines the peculiarities of the expression of the predestination motive in the “Village Novel” by I. N. Potapenko. Based on the analysis of the work, it is concluded that the predestination motive is embodied in the text not so much in mystical as in socio-biological terms: on the one hand, the main character’s genetic predisposition to destructive behavior is depicted, and on the other hand, the social conditionality of such behavior is emphasized (the influence of public opinion on the negative reputation and self–esteem of the hero).
