The Development of Church Singing in Strasbourg: Tradition and Modernity

This article describes the stages of development of church singing in Strasbourg, the capital of Alsace, which is considered as the most religious region in France. The author touches on the traditions peculiar to Catholics and Protestants. The issue of the place of Orthodox worship in Strasbourg, its adaptation in Strasbourg parishes, and language difficulties is raised separately. In the end, the author draws conclusions about the unique position of Alsace, its musical heritage, which we must cherish and help develop.
