Abstract

This review examines the recently published minutes and transcripts of the Local
Council of 1917–1918. as well as a study by the Protestant theologian Wilfried Herle devoted to
the role of women in the Church and the possibility of her ordination on the basis of Holy Scripture.
The Orthodox and Protestant views on this issue are compared. Methodological premises of the
Protestant approach are analyzed and criticized.
