The article examines original and translated publications dedicated to the theory of anarchy and anarchism in general. It demonstrates the differences in methodological approaches to the presentation of anarchism, which result in varying research conclusions and, in turn, influence the theological assessment of the phenomenon. Anarchism is viewed as an experience of social ‘horizontal’ self‑governance; however, this does not preclude the need to describe such self‑governance in terms of origins (arché) and power, which are part of the conceptual framework of political theology.
