The year 2025 marks the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea. This article by the renowned Russian canonist Sergey V. Troitsky, dedicated to this anniversary, examines the canonical decrees of the Council. The text has been translated from the Serbian publication: Troicki, S. (1925) “Čemu nas uče kanoni I Vaseljenskog sabora”, Hrišćanski život, 5, pp. 225–245. The footnotes in this publication are formatted in accordance with the original, reflecting the bibliographic and commentarial traditions of the period when the text was written. The translation from Serbian was made by D. A. Sundukova and prepared with the financial support of the Russian Foundation for Humanities (RGNF), project No. 10-03-00401a.
