About the Journal

The Journal of the Department of Church Practical Disciplines brings together publications corresponding to the profile of the department and the passports of scientific specialties of VAK 26.00.00 (Theory) and 12.00.01 (Theory and History of Law and State; History of the doctrines of law and state). The main focus is on such disciplines as liturgics, pastorology, canon law, legal sciences, pedagogy, etc.

The content follows the structure of the main academic journal of the Moscow Theological Academy, Vestnik (Herald of Theology), with an emphasis on undergraduate and postgraduate student publications.

The editors of the Praxis draw attention to its title and the tasks it entails. Today there is a demand in the Church, in the academic community and in society in general, to bridge the perceived or actual gap between systematic theology and Church practice, between canonical theory and current solutions, and finally between the Church and those who, out of inertia or mental laziness, continue to regard this gap as natural and insurmountable.

One of the goals of undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate study at the Moscow Theological Academy is to provide ministers of the Church with a clear understanding of the forms of this ministry and its particularities today. The disciplines taught in the Department (especially in the MA program in Pastorology and Liturgics) are designed to help achieve this goal. Quite naturally, the departmental volume focuses on the presentation of material from the pastoral disciplines, and in this context, canon law and liturgics. A special section is given to the research experiences of MA and postgraduate students.

We look forward to seeing representatives of other theological schools and universities in Russia and abroad on our pages.

Archpriest Alexander Zadornov,
Acting Head of the Department of Church Practical Disciplines, Moscow Theological Academy
