Painting «Healing of the Born Blind by Jesus Christ» in V. I. Surikov’s Life

Abstract

The article tells about V. I. Surikov’s work, who was one of the most striking and original artists of the second half of the XIX — early XX century. V. I. Surikov cannot be compared with any of his contemporaries. His paintings sat a standard in the historical genre, which was impossible to imitate. His realistic language and poetic gift were embodied in bold, grandiose, original and creative ideas. The artistic principles of the master differed from an academic manner and were ahead of its time. He subordinated them to the content side, to the inner idea. The picture that we will discuss is of the great importance to his artistic work. It brings together a spiritual insight, a personal drama and became an answer to the artist’s personal search.
