Ilyin’s Philosophy: Religious, Philosophical, and Political Essays. A Brief Review

Abstract

The article contains a study of key religious, philosophical, and political ideas of Russian philosopher and political thinker Ivan Ilyin (1883-1954). The sources used include one of Ilyin’s earlier works, The Philosophy of Hegel as a Doctrine of the Concreteness of God and Humanity, some later works, in which he sought to develop a noncontradictory system of religious philosophy, such as The Way to Insight, The Axioms of Religious Experience, etc. According to the article, Ilyin’s efforts to create that system finally failed. The works that contain his ideas regarding politics, statecraft, Russia’s future constitution and relation between church and state, include Our Tasks: Essays of 1948-1954 and On Monarchy and Republic as well as some other.
