Synthesis of Christianity and Anarchism in Light of Western Theology

Abstract

This article presents the main theses on the moral and soteriological value of the spiritual legacy of St John. The sphere of St John’s soteriological views and his understanding of the role of moral education in the work of salvation has, surprisingly, never been the subject of a dedicated study, despite existing works that systematize his writings. The article analyses the moral and soteriological aspects in the works of St John of Tobolsk (Maximovich) on the basis of two selected translated works: The Royal Way of the Lord’s Cross and Heliotropion. The author also sets the task of identifying the distinctive features of St John’s translation and editorial method as reflected in these works. The analysis of these texts will help to supplement the existing data on these compositions and, more specifically, on St John’s method.
