The Influence of Process Theology on Open Theism

The article examines the influence of process theology on the development of open theism. The author analyzes both the common features and the differences between these theological approaches, noting that open theists (such as Clark Pinnock, Richard Rice, Gregory Boyd, John Sanders, William Hasker, David Basinger) draw heavily on process thought. Shared elements include an understanding of love as the central divine attribute, a critique of classical theism, the rejection of the conception of God as a "pure act," and the affirmation of an open future. Key differences concern God's ontological self-sufficiency, the doctrine of creation, and the understanding of divine power. The author concludes that, despite the influence of process theology, open theism remains an independent theological movement.
