Abstract

The article explores the origins and development of Christian anarchism, from early religious movements (Waldensians, Anabaptists, Diggers) to modern Tolstoyans and liberation theology. It provides an analysis of the views of key thinkers—Jacques Ellul, Leo Tolstoy, Peter Kropotkin—demonstrating that anarchism and Christianity are not necessarily contradictory. On the contrary, both traditions may share foundational principles such as nonviolence, mutual aid, and the rejection of unjust authority. Special attention is given to debunking stereotypes: anarchism is not chaos but a pursuit of self-organization, and Christianity is not merely a pillar of the state but also a source of radical social protest. The article also examines cases of priests and religious activists involved in anarchist and socialist movements, proving that faith and the struggle for freedom can go hand in hand. This work seeks to challenge preconceived notions and show that dialogue between anarchism and Christianity is not only possible but can also open new paths toward a just society.
