Abstract

This article by Priest Ilya Pismenyuk, a lecturer at the Department of Church History and a researcher of the ecumenical movement, examines the history of the initial period of the dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the major ecumenical organization, the World Council of Churches (WCC). The author of the article talks about the stage at which the official Vatican reacted negatively to ecumenism and refused any ecumenical contacts, as well as the reasons that served to change the position of the Roman Catholic Church in relation to the ecumenical movement as a whole, as well as to the WCC as its major institution.
