The Messianic Ideal in the Gospel of Matthew in the Context of the Literature of the Inter-Testament Perion

This article is devoted to the Messianic teaching of the Gospel of Matthew in the context of the literature of the Second Temple period. This period of the Old Testament religion occupied approximately the period from the IV century BC to the I century AD. The theological works created in this era are characterized by hopes for the realization of a new reality in which God will establish full justice through a messianic figure. The Gospel of Matthew was aimed at a Jewish audience, and therefore its text is filled with polemics with Messianic ideas of the era. On the one hand, the evangelist sought to show his readers that their expectations were fulfilled, on the other hand, he wanted to explain that the fulfillment of hopes occurred in an unexpected way, through the Incarnation of God. The study of the Old Testament pseudepigraphs, Qumran literature and rabbinic texts allows us to take a more comprehensive look at the verbal icon of Christ in this Gospel.
