The Book of Job and «The Discourse of the Disappointed with His Soul»: Common Theological and Literary Aspects of the Works

The interpretation of the role of suffering in human life has been relevant at all times and has prompted people to seek out the causes of what is happening. In the literature of ancient Israel this question was addressed in the Book of Job, and in ancient Egyptian thought it was explored in the work “The Disillusioned Man’s Conversation with His Soul.” These inquiries were driven by the difficult circumstances faced by the protagonist of the work. However, the subsequent theological explorations varied depending on the author’s religion and worldview. However, due to the commonality of the problem and of the context of Middle Eastern culture, these works share certain similarities that highlight their individual characteristics.
