This article provides an overview of contemporary debates in the study of one of the most important theological themes of the Apostle Paul, the bodily resurrection of the dead in 1 Corinthians 15. This chapter has been the subject of exegetical controversy for centuries. The first part is devoted to the main lines of interpretation, identifying and classifying the main leading hypotheses in the problem of the resurrection controversy in the Corinthian Church (1 Cor. 15: 12). The second part analyses modern polemical statements of scholars concerning the expression “spiritual body” (1 Cor. 15, 44), which has different interpretations in modern biblical studies. Apostle Paul does not indicate the reason for the problem of the Corinthians’ denial of the bodily resurrection of the dead; this may indicate the complexity of the problem that existed in the Church. Nevertheless, the understanding of the Apostle’s words is still an open question for dialogue in modern biblical scholarship. The purpose of the article is to study modern, foreign scientific research concerning the Apostle Paul’s teaching on the resurrection of the dead in 1 Corinthians 15, which will provide additional materials for domestic biblical scholarship in the study of this issue.
