В своей диссертации Герхард Хазель (Hasel G.) пишет, что изучение мотива остатка в Священном Писании следует начинать с рассмотрения терминологии. Хаусманн (Hausmann J.) и Варне (Warne D.) в своих диссертациях выделяют четыре древнееврейских корня, от которых образована терминология остатка в Ветхом Завете: שאר ,יתר ,פלט ,שרד (śrḏ, p̄̄lṯ, yṯr, šʔr). Хазель добавляет к вышеперечисленным также корень אחר (ʔḥr), подчёркивая, что в древнееврейском тексте мотив остатка выражен посредством 580-и употреблений глагольных и именных производных от этих пяти корней. Дальнейшие исследования показали, что к этим пяти корням можно также добавить корни חמל ,חוס ,כלה (ḵlh, ḥws, ḥml) и מלט (mlṭ). Целью данной статьи является анализ древнееврейского корня שאר (šʔr) в тексте Ветхого Завета (BHS).
