Charitable activities of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra in the first quarter of the twentieth century

Abstract

The publication is devoted to the charitable activities of Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra. In the first quarter of the 20th century, as in any other period of its existence, the Lavra was engaged in charitable work in various directions. They included, first of all, maintenance of hospitals and chapels, hosting and organizing refectories for the worshipers, and financial aid for private individuals in need. With the beginning of Russian-Japanese War and World War I, the charitable activity of Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra was intensified, the hospital for the wounded soldiers was opened, Lavra premises for hospitals were given to, material and financial help was rendered to charitable organizations and societies, etc. The monastery's charitable work ceased after the October revolution of 1917, when the Lavra was closed down.
