Scientific, educational, and social publications of the Moscow Society of Spiritual Enlightenment Lovers in the 19th and early 20th centuries

Abstract

This article is devoted to the problems of spreading spiritual enlightenment in Russia in the period from the second half of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. During this period of history, Russian society was influenced by the propaganda of Western culture, which led to certain changes and reactions in society itself, culture and spirituality. Along with this, the problem of education, in particular spiritual education, was also relevant. These events served as an impetus and motivation for the formation of the scientific and religious Educational Society for Lovers of Spiritual Enlightenment (OLDP), which set itself the most important tasks: raising the level of spiritual education in the country, protecting against harmful religious trends, raising the level of education among the clergy, and interacting with various scientific and public organizations. Throughout the history of its existence, the OLDP has diligently, despite the difficulties encountered, followed the tasks set as far as possible. Through its activities, the Society has greatly benefited spiritual education in the country, having a positive impact on all segments of society and age groups. But due to certain events in the country after 1917, the OLDP was no longer able to carry out its activities and eventually it disappeared. The article reviews the publishing and educational works and tools used by the Society of Lovers of Spiritual Enlightenment to implement their activities during this period.
